Discover São Bento Station in Porto: history, azulejos, curiosities and practical information for visiting one of the city's most iconic landmarks.
São Bento Station was inaugurated in 1916, but its most striking feature — the 20,000 hand-painted azulejo panels in the entrance hall — was completed by artist Jorge Colaço between 1905 and 1916. The panels illustrate key moments in Portuguese history, from the conquest of Ceuta to the arrival of King João I in Porto. Admission to the station is free; trains depart regularly to Braga, Aveiro and the Douro Valley.
